Master Gardener Presentation on Saturday, March 23
Rebecca Last has been gardening on and off since the tender age of eight. She joined Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton in 2005, and now serves as the group's secretary. Her gardening interests include organic gardening, food security, native plants, and gardening for wildlife and ecology especially in the area of climate change.
|In a Master Partnership that extends beyond the
garden, Rebecca Last will present on how to grow, harvest, and store
culinary herbs, while her husband, Richard Guenette, will offer a
demonstration (with tastings) on how to use herbs in several recipes.
Richard Guenette began his career
in the restaurant industry, including working as the manager of Le Café
at the National Arts Centre and as Director of Catering at the Chateau
Although he left the food services
industry in the early nineties to free up his evenings and weekends,
Richard remained involved with semi-annual exhibits at Food and Wine
Shows in Ottawa and Toronto until 2008. Nowadays, most of his culinary
efforts serve to keep family and friends well-fed.
Richard and Rebecca's small urban garden in Ottawa's west end has been certified as backyard habitat by the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
Master Gardener Presentation on Sunday, March 24
Fran Dennett has been a volunteer with the Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton’ program since it started in 1986. She has gardened on the same city lot in Ottawa for over thirty years, inheriting her love of gardening from her grandparents who were farmers. She enjoys Life Member status with the Gloucester Horticultural Society and is interested in all aspects of horticulture.
